We are currently looking for Junior/Apprentice Grounds Assistants to join our friendly and motivated team working at sites across Northamptonshire and neighbouring counties and at world class sporting facilities such as Tottenham Hotspur training grounds – your grounds career couldn’t get off to a better start! No experience necessary as full training will be provided – punctuality, enthusiasm and a hard work ethic is all that’s needed plus a full uk driving licence and access to own transport – we will provide the rest! JUNIOR GROUNDS PERSON

Working with us to assist in maintaining and managing sports pitches and commercial grounds for our clients who represent some of the biggest companies in Northamptonshire and surrounding counties as well as Premier League Football Clubs and the Private Health and Education Sector. The role is responsible for the safe use of ride-on as well as hand rotary/cylinder mowers, line marking equipment, strimmer’s, leaf blowers and other horticultural machines.

Duties will include:

  • Turf maintenance and repairs
  • Pitch preparation and line marking
  • Soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, and pruning
  • Bed preparation and planting
  • Hedge and shrub trimming
  • Keeping borders, clear and free from debris and litter at all times
  • To keep tools and equipment clean and damage free, reporting any issues to management as necessary
  • Ensuring that all site locations visited are left in a clean and tidy state
  • Completion of records relating to tasks performed, materials and equipment used
  • Promotion of safe working practices
  • Reporting any faulty equipment, damage, vandalism, or potential hazard to management
  • In winter there are opportunities to earn overtime with joining rota’s for winter services including: gritting, salt spreading and snow clearing when required

Skills Required:

  • Full UK Driver’s License is essential and access to own transport
  • Self motivated and has the ability to work unsupervised once fully trained
  • Ability to work to laid down schedules and in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work as part of a team and use own initiative
  • Obligation to adhere to safe working practices and ensure due consideration is given to the safety of the residents and the public
  • Excellent customer liaison skills together with a commitment to customer service.

No experience necessary, as full training will be provided, but any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Experience in using a ride on mower
  • Experience using powered strimmers
  • Experience using powered hedge cutters
  • Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and safety procedures
  • PA1/PA6 qualifications and/or Horticultural qualifications (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of the use of chemicals (COSHH) and Health and Safety legislation

Job Type: Full-time, temporary to permanent after successful completion of probationary period of 3 months.

Salary: £8.00 per hour initially for 3 months progressing to £9.50 per hour (18-20 year old) with possibility for progression with training and qualifications dependant upon company growth.
